The New Jersey Globe is projecting that State Sen. Declan O’Scanlon (R-Little Silver) and Assemblyman Gerard Scharfenbeger (R-Middletown) have won re-election to the 13th legislative district, and that Holmdel School Board President Vicky Flynn has won her first term in the legislature.

The trio of Republicans defeated Democrats Vincent Solomeno, Allison Friedman, and Erin Howard. Solomeno’s slate raised a credible amount of money and staked their campaign on the unusual issue of property tax reassessments, but it wasn’t enough to win in the conservative Monmouth County district, which is also home to Gov. Phil Murphy.

O’Scanlon was first elected to the Senate in 2017 after five terms in the Assembly; he was joined by Scharfenberger in 2019, succeeding Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (R-Middletown).

Flynn, meanwhile, was chosen for the Monmouth County GOP line this spring after Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso (R-Holmdel) fell out with Republican county chair Shaun Golden. DiMaso kept running anyways, but couldn’t overcome Flynn’s party support and lost 36-27%.

Final 13th district results:

O’Scanlon 61.4% // Solomeno 38.6%

Scharfenberger 30.8%, Flynn 30.5% // Friedman 19.4%, Howard 19.4%
